KSOTD: One Headlight – Wallflowers

Wow!! Genes do travel. Bob Dylan’s son, Jakob Dylan shows off his song-writing skills here. And what skills too!! He’s got the same lovely knack of putting across his ideas using images and metaphors. If you look at the lyrics, it could be a well written song in terms of its face value. But the real beauty lies underneath all the metaphors. The feel of the song is upbeat with a strong bass punch, but somehow there is a mood of desolation all around.

In the first verse, the girl who (more…)

KSOTD: Faking It – Seether

This is the latest offering from Seether. And do they sound good!! Many suggest this is Saun’s comeback at Amy Lee for “Call me when ur sober”. Maybe, some of the lyrics would seem to suggest that. But apart from being a part of a supposed rockstar squabble, this song scores in terms of (more…)

KSOTD: Makes Me Wonder – Maroon 5

Long hiatus.. but I had to send this song across. A common recurring theme with any Maroon 5 song has been breakups. And this is another one from the same category. But what makes it so different is the treatment meted out to the lyrics. This is more mature and subtle. And of course, hits harder than the previous ones. Love the part where he says, “God damn my spinning head, decisions that made my bed.” The very fact that u continue cause (more…)

KSOTD: It’s Probably Me – Sting

This song is taken from Ten Summoner’s Tales, but is more well known cause it was featured on the Lethal Weapon 4 soundtrack. This song has Eric Clapton featuring on the guitars. Look for the guitar picking, u’ll figure him out.

This song is all about how you need to be your best friend first. How when u’ve been left all alone and have no one to share with, u need to find that your best friend is probably you, urself. This is more or less summed up by (more…)

KSOTD: She’s got Issues – Offspring

This is not autobiographical. Just wanted to say that before the gals I’ve seen start bashing me up. Another awesome in-ur-face song from Offspring from the Americana album. This is one song where the lyrics say more than the music. J and I’ve actually met gals and guys who’re so totally emotional that they end up being a strain on their partners. Love the inherent confusion in the song, specially the part where he can’t decide if he can stay over late. Oh ya.. (more…)

KSOTD: The Importance of Being Idle – Oasis

Ah!! Finally a song for us lazy bones!! :D Reminds me of “Am still sleeping” by the Beatles. But very well made. This was Oasis’ second consecutive chart topper after Layla. This song was supposedly written by Noel after spending a whole summer doing (more…)

KSOTD: Time is Running Out – Muse

The second hit single from Brit rockers, Muse, this is one more reason why I’ve always been partial to British bands. Heaviness doesn’t mean u lose out on the catchiness of the song. Some funky basslines, majorly catchy tune and a drawly voice- perfect package!! The lyrics are so cool, talking bout the way a guy is stuck in a relationship. He’s so addicted to his gal and though she wants it to end, he just cant do it. And though the relation is hurtful and he wants to give it up, its like a drug he cant give up. And he wont let the other person get out (more…)

KSOTD: One of These Days – Eagles

Karan’s Song of the Day:

This is one of the Eagles earlier hits. (A #1 hit from 1975). A very soul inspired song, this song incorporates a dark, intense feel. The very catchy opening riff was by the newly inducted Don Felder. I kinda associate the song with Witchee Woman, as its got the same kinda melody. But the lyrics are definitely more intense. This is one song u would love to play in the background when ur with your gal.

The song is bout a journey to get this woman he really (more…)

KSOTD: Digs – Incubus

A relatively new one from the Incubus stock. Simple yet profound lyrics that translate how we count on some people, call them friend, confidant, whoever, ones who we rely upon to be there for us especially when things seem a little rough or downright overwhelming. Not the usual feel good rhyme about “I’ll be there for you” but rather more intense, something that comes into your mind when life seems more grave and through the grimness you appreciate having someone by your side.

I love the line that goes “If I turn into another, dig me up from under what is covering the better part of me.” This line talks about how people might lose themselves at times in their life, but u can always rely on (more…)

KSOTD: Superman(It’s not easy) – Five For Fighting

Karan’s Song of the Day:

Wow!! This is called soul stirring… The play between the most powerful superhero in the universe and the most weakening emotions is wonderfully done. And Superman is just a metaphor, he represents most of us. Most of us who go around putting up this façade of being soooo strong and unbreakable when there are things breaking us down internally. And most of the time this façade is created according to how people want us to be, how’re we’re deemed to be by the world around us. All he asks for is (more…)
